Mirror Lake occupies a seasonal widening of Tenaya Creek at the base of Half Dome. The approach uses a paved service road, with views into Tenaya Canyon and toward Mount Watkins and Washington Column.
Kampilo uses the shorter lake-and-back option: 2 miles round trip, about 100 feet of gain, and roughly one hour according to the NPS. It begins at Mirror Lake Trailhead, where there is no parking, and follows the paved pedestrian route to its lake-area endpoint. Access from Upper Pines is not included in these hiking metrics.
