Water planning
Unnamed mapped stream or river is mapped within 0.5 mile of the camp-area marker. This is map evidence, not a real-time flow report.
Natural water is not verified potable. Filter and disinfect it or boil it according to the linked land-manager guidance before drinking.
Unnamed mapped stream or river is classified as intermittent and may be dry.
Fire planning
Wood, charcoal, driftwood, and ground fires are prohibited in the Santa Rosa Island backcountry camping zones. Do not collect or burn island vegetation or beach wood.
Portable gas stove only. Use a self-contained gas backpacking stove only when current park fire conditions allow it; shield it from wind and keep it attended.
The NPS backcountry-beach permit is required. The park does not identify a separate California Campfire Permit for an allowed gas stove.
Check Channel Islands current conditions, the selected quadrant's fire-recovery status, and boat operator notices before departure.
Seasonal access
No recurring date-based closure of Del Norte Backcountry Camp is published. The source-connected approach conditions below and temporary emergency orders still control access.
Source-connected approaches: Prisoners Harbor Trailhead, Scorpion Anchorage Trailhead. Channel Islands trips depend on authorized boat service, landing conditions, weather, ocean conditions, and island-specific closures. Santa Rosa beach quadrants can close for wildlife protection, storm damage, or fire recovery; there is no backcountry drinking water.
For Santa Rosa, confirm that the selected northwest or southwest beach quadrant is open on the fire-recovery page, then verify the permit, boat itinerary, landing, pickup, and weather. Carry all water from the mainland.
