Fire planning
Do not use wood, charcoal, or a twig stove at Cucamonga Wilderness camp areas; an existing ring is not authorization.
Controlled-fuel stove with permit. Use only a gas, LPG, jellied-petroleum, or pressurized-liquid-fuel stove with a shutoff valve when San Bernardino restrictions allow it.
Carry the free wilderness permit and a valid California Campfire Permit for stove use; neither overrides an emergency order.
Check San Bernardino alerts and the trailhead posting on the departure day because current orders can suspend stove use.
Seasonal access
No recurring date-based closure of Comanche Camp Area is published. The source-connected approach conditions below and temporary emergency orders still control access.
Source-connected approaches: Icehouse Canyon Trailhead, Middle Fork Lytle Creek Trailhead. Cucamonga Wilderness has no single annual closure, but snow and ice, summer heat, wildfire, washouts, and emergency orders can close Icehouse or Middle Fork access.
Check San Bernardino alerts, the exact trail page, road gate, parking rules, and wilderness permit instructions before departure.
