Natural water is not verified potable. Filter and disinfect it or boil it according to the linked land-manager guidance before drinking.
Granite Springs Primitive Camp has variable or unclassified seasonality; confirm it immediately before departure. Sweetwater River is classified as intermittent and may be dry.
Fire planning
Granite Springs Primitive Camp is an undeveloped backcountry camp area in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park Backcountry. A reservation and mapped camp never imply that a fire is allowed. Follow posted stove, fire-ring, red-flag, and emergency restrictions. Ground fires are not authorized; use a park-provided fire facility only when the selected camp has one and the park has not suspended fires.
Portable gas stove in the assigned camp when park rules allow. Use a self-contained portable gas stove only in the portion of the assigned camp approved by California State Parks. Extreme-fire-danger and red-flag restrictions can suspend stove use.
The required backcountry reservation or permit does not itself grant fire permission. California State Parks does not identify a separate California Campfire Permit for an approved portable stove inside these park camps.
Check the current Cuyamaca Rancho State Park Backcountry notice and the assigned camp posting before using any flame; State Parks may prohibit wood, charcoal, or every flame device without changing the reservation.
Seasonal access
No recurring date-based closure of Granite Springs Primitive Camp is published. The source-connected approach conditions below and temporary emergency orders still control access.
Source-connected approaches: Paso Picacho Trailhead, Green Valley Trailhead. Cuyamaca trail camps do not share a published recurring closure window. Snow, wildfire, extreme heat, storms, park operations, and temporary trail closures can change access.
Confirm the trail-camp reservation, selected entrance and parking, current park notices, weather, and fire restrictions before departure.
