Fire planning
Lassen Trail Backcountry Area is an undeveloped Ishi Wilderness camp area. Use a fire only where current Lassen National Forest restrictions allow it, in an existing safe site, and never during wind or high fire danger.
Shutoff-valve stove with California permit. Use a gas, LPG, jellied-petroleum, or pressurized-liquid-fuel stove with a working shutoff valve; twig and wood stoves follow the campfire rule.
Carry a valid California Campfire Permit for any allowed stove or fire.
Check Lassen National Forest alerts immediately before departure; the hot, low-elevation canyon can move into restrictions early in the season.
Seasonal access
No recurring date-based closure of Lassen Trail Backcountry Area is published. The source-connected approach conditions below and temporary emergency orders still control access.

Check Lassen National Forest alerts, recent rainfall, creek levels, heat, fire danger, and the exact Deer Creek, Lassen Trail, or Mill Creek road before leaving pavement.
