Joshua Tree National Park, California
Juniper Flats Zone is an official itinerary area, permit zone, or source-backed named overnight reference represented by a reachable point on the pinned agency trail network in Joshua Tree National Park.
The marker is a route-access reference, not a tent pad. Move off the trail only where travel is permitted, remain inside the authorized zone, and choose a legal durable site under every current setback and closure.

Fire planning
Campfires, charcoal, and the collection or burning of vegetation are prohibited in Joshua Tree backcountry zones.
Backpacking camp stove allowed. Use a self-contained backpacking stove and bring all fuel; do not use a twig or wood-burning stove.
Joshua Tree's backpacking guidance does not identify a separate California Campfire Permit for an allowed camp stove.
Check current park conditions before departure because emergency restrictions can be stricter.
Seasonal access
No recurring date-based closure of Juniper Flats Zone is published. The source-connected approach conditions below and temporary emergency orders still control access.
Source-connected approaches: Black Rock Backcountry Trailhead, Boy Scout Trailhead, Covington Flats Trailhead, and 6 more. Most backcountry access has no annual closure date, but extreme summer heat, monsoon flooding, and unpaved-road damage can make routes unsafe. Four named backpacking zones have a separate summer closure.
Check the current seasonal-closure page, alerts, road conditions, and heat forecast before entering any zone.
