Fire planning

Campfire & stove rules

Existing camp ring only when Los Padres restrictions allow

Campfires

Haddock Camp is a named Los Padres backcountry camp. Use only an existing legal ring when the current forest order allows wood fires; never build a ring in a drainage or outside the established camp.

Backpacking stoves

Shutoff-valve stove with California permit. Use a gas, LPG, jellied-petroleum, or pressurized-liquid-fuel stove with a working shutoff valve. Wood and twig stoves follow the campfire restriction.

Permit

Carry a valid California Campfire Permit for an allowed stove or campfire.

Current restrictions

Check the Potrero John page and Los Padres alerts before departure; wildfire danger can prohibit fires or all flame devices regardless of an existing ring.

Seasonal access

Closures & seasonal access

Nira and the Upper Manzana Creek Trail do not have a published recurring closure window

Place closure

No recurring date-based closure of Haddock Camp is published. The source-connected approach conditions below and temporary emergency orders still control access.

Seasonal access

Source-connected approaches: Johnston Ridge Trailhead, Reyes Peak Trailhead, Santa Paula Canyon Trailhead, and 1 more. Nira and the Upper Manzana Creek Trail do not have a published recurring closure window. Wet-weather road closures, winter creek crossings, wildfire orders, summer heat, and storm damage can still remove safe access; Manzana Creek camps are most dependable in spring and early summer.

Before driving

Check the Nira site page and Los Padres alerts, then confirm the road, Upper Manzana Creek Trail, crossings, fire restrictions, and creek flow immediately before departure.
