Fire planning

Campfire & stove rules

Reserved-site fire facility only when EBRPD permits

Campfires

Star's Rest is a reserved East Bay Regional Park District backpack camp. Use fire only in a provided facility when the reservation and current fire-danger notice expressly allow it; never build a ground fire or gather wood.

Backpacking stoves

Portable gas stove at the reserved backpack site. Use a self-contained gas backpacking stove at the assigned site and keep it attended. A park closure or high-fire-danger notice can suspend all flame use.

Permit

The backpack-camping reservation is required. EBRPD does not identify a separate California Campfire Permit for an approved portable stove at the reserved site.

Current restrictions

Check the EBRPD fire-status notice, water-status report, and the assigned camp instructions before departure; those current notices control over the standing reservation information.

Seasonal access

Closures & seasonal access

The Ohlone corridor has no published recurring closure season, but extreme heat, storms, fire danger, park-hour changes, and seasonal spring failure can make a trip unsafe or unavailable

Place closure

No recurring date-based closure of Star's Rest is published. The source-connected approach conditions below and temporary emergency orders still control access.

Seasonal access

Source-connected approaches: Del Valle Ohlone Trailhead, Sunol Visitor Center Trailhead, Stanford Avenue Trailhead. The Ohlone corridor has no published recurring closure season, but extreme heat, storms, fire danger, park-hour changes, and seasonal spring failure can make a trip unsafe or unavailable.

Before driving

Confirm the backpack-camping reservation, all three park access conditions, and the live EBRPD water-status list immediately before departure.
