Fire planning
Campfires and barbecues are prohibited in Mount San Jacinto State Wilderness, including at the four designated wilderness campgrounds.
Portable stove with shutoff allowed. Cooking is limited to a portable camp stove with an on/off switch at the designated campsite.
The State Wilderness camping permit is required; the park does not identify a separate California Campfire Permit for the permitted stove.
Check State Park notices before departure because extreme-fire-danger orders can further restrict flame devices.
Seasonal access
No recurring date-based closure of Tamarack Valley Campground is published. The source-connected approach conditions below and temporary emergency orders still control access.
Source-connected approaches: Deer Springs Trailhead, Marion Mountain Trailhead, Humber Park Trailhead, and 1 more. The state and federal wilderness remains winter terrain rather than a summer-only destination. Roads, the Palm Springs tram, snow, ice, heat, and fire orders can independently control access.
Check State Park notices, National Forest alerts, tram operations when relevant, and current snow conditions for the selected side of the mountain.
