Fire planning
Usal Beach Camp is an undeveloped backcountry camp area in Sinkyone Wilderness State Park. Use fire rings or stoves only when current park rules and emergency orders allow them. Ground fires are not authorized; use a park-provided fire facility only when the selected camp has one and the park has not suspended fires.
Portable gas stove in the assigned camp when park rules allow. Use a self-contained portable gas stove only in the portion of the assigned camp approved by California State Parks. Extreme-fire-danger and red-flag restrictions can suspend stove use.
The required backcountry reservation or permit does not itself grant fire permission. California State Parks does not identify a separate California Campfire Permit for an approved portable stove inside these park camps.
Check the current Sinkyone Wilderness State Park notice and the assigned camp posting before using any flame; State Parks may prohibit wood, charcoal, or every flame device without changing the reservation.
Seasonal access
No recurring date-based closure of Usal Beach Camp is published. The source-connected approach conditions below and temporary emergency orders still control access.
Source-connected approaches: Usal Beach Trailhead, Bear Harbor Trailhead, Needle Rock Trailhead. Sinkyone backcountry camps do not have one published recurring closure season, but remote access roads are steep, narrow, unpaved, and vulnerable to rain, slides, downed trees, wildfire, and washouts. Vehicle access may end well before the intended trailhead.
Check current Sinkyone notices and road conditions, then confirm the exact access road and camp before leaving pavement; do not rely on ordinary passenger-car access after storms.
