Availability

Point Reyes provides a water faucet at each of its four hike-in campgrounds and says the water is usually potable.

Drinking safety

The managed faucet is potable when it is operating and no advisory is posted. Bring backup water or a treatment method in case the system is unavailable or posted non-potable.

Seasonality

The camp is open year-round, but the treatment system can fail or be taken out of service. Obey any posted advisory and carry a backup treatment method.

Fire planning

Campfire & stove rules

Wood and charcoal prohibited

Campfires

Wood and charcoal fires are prohibited at Coast, Glen, Sky, and Wildcat hike-in campgrounds. A beach-fire permit does not authorize a fire at the campground.

Backpacking stoves

Gas stove or canned heat only. Use only a self-contained gas stove or canned heat for cooking and keep it attended whenever it is producing heat.

Permit

No separate fire permit is required for an allowed gas stove; the assigned backcountry campsite permit remains required.

Current restrictions

Spare-the-Air alerts and high fire danger can impose additional restrictions. Check the campground notice before departure.

Seasonal access

Closures & seasonal access

The seashore is open every day of the year, but winter storms, erosion, downed trees, wildfire damage, and wildlife-protection orders can close roads, trails, beaches, or individual camps with little notice

Place closure

No recurring date-based closure of Sky Camp is published. The source-connected approach conditions below and temporary emergency orders still control access.

Seasonal access

Source-connected approaches: Bear Valley Trailhead, Palomarin Trailhead, Five Brooks Trailhead, and 4 more. The seashore is open every day of the year, but winter storms, erosion, downed trees, wildfire damage, and wildlife-protection orders can close roads, trails, beaches, or individual camps with little notice.
