Fire planning

Campfire & stove rules

Named-camp ring only when current restrictions allow

Campfires

Terrace Creek Camp is an official Ventana/Silver Peak camp spur. A wood fire is legal only in an existing camp ring when the current Los Padres order permits it; do not build a new ring or collect scarce live wood.

Backpacking stoves

Shutoff-valve stove with California permit. Use a controlled-fuel stove with a working shutoff valve. Wood-burning and twig stoves follow the campfire restriction.

Permit

Carry a valid California Campfire Permit for an allowed stove or fire.

Current restrictions

Check Los Padres alerts, the exact camp/trail notice, and Highway 1 access immediately before departure; current orders supersede the standing camp rule.

Seasonal access

Closures & seasonal access

Ventana and Silver Peak routes have no single recurring closure season, but winter storms, wildfire, slides, washouts, and damaged stream crossings can close roads, trails, or named camps

Place closure

No recurring date-based closure of Terrace Creek Camp is published. The source-connected approach conditions below and temporary emergency orders still control access.

Seasonal access

Source-connected approaches: Pine Ridge Trailhead, China Camp Trailhead, Kirk Creek Trailhead. Ventana and Silver Peak routes have no single recurring closure season, but winter storms, wildfire, slides, washouts, and damaged stream crossings can close roads, trails, or named camps. Summer and fall water can become scarce away from dependable drainages.

Before driving

Check Los Padres alerts, the current coastal visitor plan, the exact trail, and Highway 1 conditions before departure; a published camp name does not establish that the approach is currently passable.
