Cottonwood Lakes Trailhead is the Horseshoe Meadows entry for the Cottonwood Lakes and New Army Pass network in the Golden Trout Wilderness. Kampilo follows official Forest Service trails to ten supported camp areas across the numbered lakes, Muir Lake, Long and High lakes, South Fork Lakes, and Cirque Lake.
Horseshoe Meadows Road climbs steeply from the Owens Valley and is seasonal. The trailhead starts above 10,000 feet, so weather, acclimatization, road status, and current Forest Service conditions should be checked before travel.
