Butte Lake Trailhead

Lassen Volcanic National Park, California

About this place

Butte Lake Trailhead is a source-backed overnight access point in Lassen Volcanic National Park. Kampilo publishes only the official trail geometry and permit or camp authorization options represented in the mapped catalog.

The mapped line is a planning reference rather than a guarantee of current access. Confirm road, parking, trail, weather, fire, permit, and closure conditions with the land manager before departure.

Seasonal access

Closures & seasonal access

Snow normally closes the through park highway to vehicles from roughly November through April

Place closure

No recurring date-based closure of Butte Lake Trailhead is published. Seasonal unpaved Butte Lake Road and temporary emergency orders still control access.

Seasonal access

Seasonal unpaved Butte Lake Road: Use the signed Butte Lake trailhead parking. The remote gravel road is seasonal and can be rough or closed. Snow normally closes the through park highway to vehicles from roughly November through April. Remote Butte Lake, Juniper Lake, and Warner Valley roads also become snowbound and are not equivalent to winter trailhead access.

Before driving

Use Lassen's current road and oversnow reports. Closed vehicle roads can become winter ski or snowshoe routes, but summer mileage and services no longer apply.
